Everyday Energy Healing: Simple Ways to Reconnect, Restore, and Rebalance Yourself

Gretchen Wood Lakshmi • November 9, 2025

There is an invisible current that flows through you.

It flows through every heartbeat, every breath, every moment of laughter and pain.

  • It’s the quiet pulse of life itself.

When we learn to sense and tune into that current, to work with it instead of against it, something begins to soften inside of us.

Energy healing isn’t just for people who are trained in Reiki or other formal modalities. It’s for everyone and anyone, because energy is what we are.

Remember what you already know.

From the moment we come into this world, we instinctively know how to work with energy. When we hold a hurting spot, sigh to release tension, or place a hand over our heart when we’re scared, we’re moving energy. And...

  • We’re communicating safety to our nervous system.
  • We’re soothing the body’s natural rhythms.

But over time, we forget this language.

  • We grow disconnected from our bodies, distracted by the noise of the world, and start to see healing as something that has to come from outside of us.

Energy healing reminds us that the capacity to calm, nurture, and restore ourselves has always lived within us.

So, I'm sharing some of my favorite self-healing energy work practices.

Healing Hands

The Heart–Belly Connection

Here's a simple and powerful way to come back to yourself.

  1. Sit comfortably and place one hand on your heart and one hand on your belly.
  2. Take a slow, deep breath in through your nose, feeling your hands rise when your chest expands.
  3. Exhale gently through your mouth, and release tension.

As you continue to breathe:

  • Notice the warmth of your hands penetrating into the chest and belly.
  • Feel your own energy responding.
  • Imagine the breath as light, being drawn into your heart and into your bloodstream, flooding the body as the heart beats.
  • Send love to any part of yourself that you can connect with here.

This practice balances your emotional and physical energy, soothing the nervous system and inviting an inner sense of peace.

Havening

Sweep Away Stagnant Energy

Energy can sometimes feel heavy or “stuck” in the body. You can gently help it move along with your hands.

  1. Start by rubbing your palms together briskly to create a little friction and some warmth.
  2. Sweep your open palms gently over your face, ears, and neck, like you're washing your face with your hands.
  3. Sweep downward, towards the top of your shoulders or collar bone area, clearing the facial nerve energy down through the insertion point of the vagus nerve, around the ears, and down the sides of the neck.
  4. Then, sweep each arm with an open palm from shoulder to fingertips, one arm at a time back and forth a few times over each arm.
  5. Finally, using one hand at a time, sweep across the heart, and down the side body to the leg, ankle, or foot. Repeat each side a few times.

  • As you do this, imagine letting go of what doesn’t belong to you: stress, other people’s emotions, or old energy that’s ready to be released.
  • When you’re finished, let out a few heavy sighs and symbolically let the energy fall away.

You might be surprised at how much lighter you feel afterward.

Grounding

Root into the Earth

Grounding is one of the most essential forms of energetic hygiene. It helps us feel anchored and safe, especially when life feels overwhelming.

  1. Stand or sit with your feet flat on the floor.
  2. Close your eyes and imagine roots extending down from your feet into the Earth.
  3. With each breath, feel your roots deepen; becoming strong, stable, and connected.

  • As you inhale, draw up the calm, nurturing energy of the Earth.
  • As you exhale, imagine releasing tension, fear, or worry through those roots into the Earth, where it can be transformed.

Light Breath

Breathing Light Through the Body

Your breath is one of the most direct ways to move energy.

  1. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.
  2. Visualize a warm, healing light at the center of your chest.

  • With every inhale, imagine that light expanding throughout your body — into your shoulders, arms, legs, and head.
  • With every exhale, imagine releasing any heaviness or tension.

This practice helps clear energetic blockages and invites vitality back into your system.

Alignment

Color & Intention Healing

Energy responds to imagery and intention. You can use colors to influence how you feel energetically.

  • Blue for calm and communication
  • Green for restoration and balance
  • Pink for compassion and self-love
  • Golden light for protection and vitality

All you have to do is close your eyes, breathe, and imagine bathing in the color that calls to you most. Let it fill your body until you feel restored.

Energy healing doesn’t have to be a grand ritual.

It can be a quiet moment before bed, a breath in your car between errands, a pause before you enter a stressful meeting.

These small acts of awareness remind your body and spirit that they are safe to rest, to release, and to receive.

The more often you check in with your energy, the more you begin to notice subtle shifts:

  • where you feel open
  • where you feel blocked
  • where your light needs a little more attention

Healing isn’t about doing it perfectly; it’s about remembering that you can.

  • So, take a breath. Feel the warmth of your own hands. Listen to the current of life moving through you. Sense the steady hum that says:

You are here. You are whole. You are energy.

In support of your healing,
